Attention: Internet Users!
If you are reading this, you are probably used to searching the Internet on your home computer. Why then should you care about the Internet access at the Library? Simply because the Library has added a number of new and improved reference resources for patrons that are not normally available to regular home users. These include "on line" accesses to:
Infotrac General Reference Center Gold and Infotrac Health Reference Center.

You can also obtain a password from your reference
librarian that will permit you to log onto Infotrac from your home computer!
To learn how to access the wealth of information available from these sources, read on.

General Reference Center Gold

All in a single reference database, General Reference Center Gold integrates a vast array of key business titles to fully answer patrons' reference questions. From national newsmagazines and encyclopedias to core business journals, General Reference Center Gold has the full text and image resources students and researchers need, all searchable in one self-service database.

Imagine what would be involved in duplicating the information described above in print format. It would take a library similar to the Library of Congress, along with its staff and budget. Instead, we can access it online. Looking for a recent (or not so recent) article from the Wall Street Journal, New York Times or Christian Science Monitor? The full text and image article is there and you can print it out if you choose.

Using Infotrac General Reference Center Gold is quite "user friendly". Hyperlinks between and even within sources provide point-and-click navigation to related topics and articles. Many articles also provide links to related sources outside of the current article: reference books, magazines and newspaper articles.

Infotrac Health Reference Center

Health Reference Center is the premier, multi-source database for health and wellness research. Rich with full text and image documents, Health Reference Center draws from an unmatched selection of current sources including medical and consumer periodicals, health newsletters, reference books, referral information, topical overviews and pamphlets. Designed especially for lay research, Health Reference Center provides unrivaled depth and breadth of information in terms that the non-medical professional can understand.

Like the General Reference Center database, the Health Reference Center is ideally suited for our rural county. Health concerns are among the most frequent of the reference questions posed by patrons. Now patrons and staff will be able to access this database.

Using Infotrac "on line"

Infotrac is very powerful as it permits you to forward a copy of a document
or information to your home computer email address

Computer  #6  at the library provides access to both Infotrac General Reference and Infotrac Health Reference databases. Simply sign in at the Reference Desk and click on the Internet Explorer icon. The Infotrac homepage will appear with a "proceed" option. Click on that, and you will be offered either the General Reference or Health Reference databases.   You also can register to receive a password permitting you access from your home computer.
