History of Flagler County, Florida

Originally, Flagler County was a part of both St. Johns and Volusia Counties, however the residents of the growing communities of St. Johns Park, Haw Creek, Dupont, Espanola, Korona, Bunnell and Ocean City decided they needed more representation in the Florida Legislature.

There was much support from the Senators and Representatives from St. Augustine and Deland so, with Mr. I. I. Moody being the driving force, in collaboration with Mr. J. F. Lambert and J. B. Boaz of Bunnell, Mr. N. E. Roberts of Haw Creek and E. F. Warner of St. Johns Park, the details were worked out and, in 1917, a delegation from the area attended the session of the Florida Legislature to introduce the bill requesting the formation of Flagler County.

Since that time, Flagler County has continued to grow, as an ever - expanding number of small businesses relocate to the area and more and more retirees come to enjoy the beaches and scenery, along with the recreational and cultural facilities.
