We meet at 6:30 p.m. the first Thursday of each month October through April at the Florida Hospital Flagler (just west of I95) on SR100 Palm Coast. The program will start at 6:30 pm. We will be in meeting room A or B. All members (and visitors) of the community are welcome to attend meetings and participate in activities Next meeting April 8 Falcons and Hawks Special Young Person's Program at Bunnel Elementary School Audubon Center for Birds of Prey presents falcons and hawks. The Center is a renowned raptor rehabilitation facility that travels with live non-releasable raptor ambassadors educating the public on challenges they face and way you can help. Come meet some falcons and hawks in person and learn about their extraordinary senses and physical adaptions that make these birds masters of the sky. The meeting will start at 6:30 - 800 East Howe Street, Bunnell Next field trips March 13 and 20th Western Flagler and Orlando Wetlands March is such a wonderful month for birding here in Florida that we have two field trips planned. On Saturday Mar 13 we will be doing a BIRD DRIVE through western Flagler County. Expect to see quite a different bird populations including bluebirds, brewer's blackbirds, and sandhill cranes. The following Saturday Mar 20 we will be heading south to the Orlando Wetlands. Again this should be a wonderful time of year for birding at this site. We should expect to see rails, bitterns, night herons and the last of the ducks before they head north. In both cases we will meet at the parking lot of Winn-Dixie at the intersection of SR100 and I95 at 8:00 am. Next year's bird classes Watch out for our next round of specialist birding classes. Shorebirds in flight, hawks in flight and migratory birds are among the ideas we are considering. Poets corner sometimes we get so wrapped up in what birds we see and count that we don't take the time to stand back and see the big picture of nature's beauty. Poetry helps us take a broader view. Oh pretty bird! Oh fluff and feathers, beak and bright eye, alliterative name in my throat! Too easy reach to say lover, heart's bloog, blush or flush or crush of wine- dark berries over snow. Too easy now to smile at window glass. Pretty boy. Misjudging you was never just a game.
