Flagler Audubon's Position on Eco-friendly Development in Flagler County

Flagler Audubon Society has defines a series of areas in the county which are of high environmental importance and which should be accorded extra protection . We call these areas the Jewels of Flagler County.

Each jewel was selected for its breadth of wildlife and ecological diversity using the Integrated Wildlife Habitat Ranking System from the FWC.

If development proposals are made inside or contiguous with a Jewel then we we believe that any development should be done in a eco sensitive manner.

There is a proposal at this meoment (July 2009) to change the Future land use allowed on a parcel east of I95 and South of SR 100. This is in the middle of one of the Jewels. The Flagler Audubon Society believes that the area east of Old Kings Road should be designated conservation and that development east of Old Kings Road should be confined to a narrow corridor of about 300 to 500 feet.
